Online Research Round Table
In 2024, the Autism Teaching Institute will be hosting two online research round tables. These online forums will provide the opportunity for educators from Victorian schools to virtually come together, and participate in facilitated discussions on research and ideas related to autism, education and inclusion.

Autism, Interests and Strengths
In recent years, there has been increasing attention paid by researchers to the impact that interest and motivation have on student learning and wellbeing. In this online forum, we will look at research and first-hand accounts from the autistic community related to student interests, and why we should be making space for them in our classrooms.
During the session we will:
- Engage with cutting-edge research
- Explore insights from case-studies and first-hand accounts of the autistic community
- Review practical tools and strategies for learning about the interests of our students
- Collaborate and share knowledge with other educators

Self-Determination for Autistic Learners
Students learn best when they are motivated and engaged, but what are the factors that impact motivation, and what approaches are effective for supporting learners who are disengaged? In this online forum we will look at research around Self-Determination, and what it can tell us about
During this session we will:
- Explore research into the factors that drive learner engagement
- Analyse and intrinsic and extrinsic sources of motivation, and the different impacts they can have
- Share strategies for building learner engagement through nurtuing self-determination
- Collaborate and share knowledge with other educators
